For process chromatography, column dimensions greater than 100mm i.d. are frequently required
in order to increase productivity.
For this reason, the concept of vacuum packing has been expanded to columns of larger dimensions.
Due to the size and weight of stationary separating columns, the basic principle of stablized and controlled
bed compression has been retained; however a somewhat different construction has been used than
for the mobile packing stands of 25 up to 100mm internal diameter.
In these process packing stands, the compression piston for column bed stabilization is inserted
into the column from above and the column packing is performed downwards due to the larger quantity
of sorbent. All other design characteristics are identical; thus, the advantages for safe and reliable
operation are the same as those for the mobile packing stands:
| |
The new vacuum packing technique enables preparative process columns to be handled easily |
| The columns can be filled rapidly and economically on site thus avoiding long delays in production |
| Due to the controlled bed compression, the column usage time and lifetime are substantially
prolonged resulting in guaranteeing longer production cycles. |
| "Soft" gels such as polymer gels can also be used. |

account for special applications. Such special versions present no problems for us; please
