Structuring Solutions for economical and environmentally-
friendly processes for solar cell fabrication |
|
EMD Chemicals Inc. has recently introduced a new line of products called SolarEtch for use in photovoltaic
manufacturing. The following are some select products and examples of their utility in this industry.
These etching pastes are used in a variety of applications in solar
cell fabrication. They may be used to generate a selective emitter
by etching different anti-reflection coatings and different passivation
layers on top of a solar cell, either through silicon nitride or silicon
dioxide. They can also be used to form local back surface fields to
achieve high efficiency solar cells and also to allow low temperature
etching of the insulating layer, either silicon nitride or silicon
dioxide, prior to metallization.
SolarEtch SiD
This product allows the use of dispenser etching for edge isolation with the following advantages over plasma etching, grinding/sawing, laser scribing or masking processes.

Functionality of dispenser technique.

Etched thermal oxide on mono-crystalline silicon |
Advantages
In contrast to the currently used edge isolation methods,
the dispenser etching has many significant advantages: |
 |
Contact-less process |
 |
Applicable for very thin silicon wafers |
 |
High throughput (cycle time > 6 s per wafer) |
 |
Easy in-line integration |
 |
Atmospheric process |
 |
No crystal damages, high FF |
 |
Low investment costs |
 |
No need of screens, layouts, masks |
 |
Perfect etchant utilization |
 |
Friendly process |
